Early Life

Loeffler was born on November 27, 1970, in Bloomington, Illinois and grew up on the family farm, where she worked in the soybean fields. She attended Olympia High School and participated in various sports like basketball, cross country, and track & field. In 1988, she graduated from the school.

Loeffler did her higher degree education at the University of Illinois and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing in 1992. After that, she received her Master of Business Administration in International Finance and Marketing from DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business in 1999.

Business Career

Soon after graduating from the college, Loeffler worked for Toyota as a district account manager. After earning her MBA, she worked for Citibank, William Blair & Company, and the Crossroads Group.

In 2002, she joined International Exchange, a commodity and financial service provider. After that, she became the vice-president of investor relations and corporate communications. In 2010, she bought a share in the Atlanta Dream of the Women’s National Basketball Association.

Kelly became the chief executive officer of Bakkt, a subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange. Bakkt was founded by her husband Jeff Sprecher. Moreover, she also serves on the boards of Georgia Power and Grady Memorial Hospital. She has also served on the boards of the Georgia Research Alliance and Skyland Trail, a non-profit treatment center for mental health serving ages 14-17 and adults.

Loeffler is Republican by her political involvement. She and her husband have donated $3.2 million to political committees. She donated $750,000 to Restore Our Future while she has also contributed $247,500 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Loeffler has also donated some of her money in support of Mitt Romney’s 2012 Presidential campaign. In 2014, she considered taking a Republican nomination for the US Senate election in Georgia but passed on the race because of Intercontinental Exchange’s merger with the NYSE.

In November 2019, Loeffler succeed incumbent Senator Johnny Isakson, who announced his resignation for the US Senate following his health reasons. She was sworn into the Senate on January 6, 2020, and has been assigned to the committees including Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Joint Economic Committee, and Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.

Kelly will run for reelection to complete the remaining two years of Isakson’s term. According to reports, she plans to spend $20 million of her own money on the campaign. She will face Doug Collins, who currently represents Georgia’s 9th congressional district in the House of Representatives.
